Short bio
Dr Jacek Pawlak is an experienced specialist working in the fields of transport, urban systems, technology, and innovation. He currently holds the posts of Research Fellow at Imperial College London (Urban Systems Laboratory and Centre for Transport Studies), Transport and Urban Systems Research Lead for Cisco Corporate & Strategic Innovation Group across EMEAR, and Director at Intersection Analytics Ltd. Dr Pawlak’s background is in Economics, Geography and Transport Studies (Imperial College London and University College London). Since January 2017 he has been a member of the US Transportation Research Board Standing Committee on Effects of ICT on Travel choices (AEP35). He is also a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society.
In recent years, Dr Pawlak has been extensively involved in research on understanding and modelling the role and impact of new technologies on transport and wider urban systems, using both traditional (survey) and emerging (‘Big’) data sources. To date Dr Pawlak has been part of a number of large scale academic and industrial research projects, including £6M EPSRC-funded Digital City Exchange project at Imperial College London, £2M InnovateUK-RSSB-funded Project SWIFT (Superfast Wi-Fi In-Train for Future Travel) and has also been involved in formulating and executing the £15M winning proposal for the UK’s IoT City Demonstrator Cityverve, led by Cisco CREATE and Manchester City Council. In addition, Dr Pawlak has extensive experience as a reviewer for academic journals, research agencies, government departments and industrial bodies. He has also substantial consulting experience, including leading his own consultancy Intersection Analytics Ltd. since 2015.
